HOUSING/HOMELESSNESS

Dignity Virtual Village

Dignity is a formerly mobile tent city in Portland, Oregon, well on its way to becoming a green, sustainable, urban village. It is home for people who might otherwise inhabit doorways and sidewalks. Dignity provides a peaceful community, a clean environment, a center, and safety.

At FareStart, food is the tool that empowers lives, nourishes families and builds communities. For over 12 years FareStart has provided nutritious meals to those in need and helped homeless and disadvantaged men, women and their families create new opportunities for the future.

Peace for the Streets by Kids from the Streets

Peace for the Streets by Kids from the Streets (PSKS) provides support and services to Seattle area homeless youth and young adults. Founded in 1995, PSKS was a response to the growing number of homeless youth coupled with the significant shortage of available services for them. PSKS is a unique organization that uses the talents and experiences of homeless and formerly homeless young people to develop service strategies for their peers.

PSKS's committed efforts are targeted at providing stepping stones to transition youths from the streets to self-sufficiency and productive roles in the community. PSKS's mission is driven by the belief that there is potential in every person and a solution for every cause.

National Low Income Housing Coalition

The National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) is dedicated solely to ending America’s affordable housing crisis. NLIHC believes that this is achievable, that the affordable housing crisis is a problem that Americans are capable of solving. While NLIHC is concerned about the housing circumstances of all low income people, we focus our advocacy on those with the most serious housing problems, the lowest income households.

ROOTS Young Adult Shelter (Seattle)

ROOTS Young Adult Shelter provides safe, emergency, overnight shelter to young adults (ages 18-25) in Seattle's University District that are homeless. Our vision is that one day shelter will no longer be necessary because each young person will have a safe home. Until that happens, we will continue to open our doors.
